“I stayed at the accessible site #13. There were no level places for the tent.”

Mackinaw Campground sits beside Fish Lake along the Fishlake Scenic Byway in central Utah at about 9,000 feet elevation, on a sagebrush-covered hillside that looks down over the valley and the lake. The site inventory is specific: 67 total campsites 63 that accommodate both RVs and tents, 3 RV-only sites, and 1 tent-only site plus four group sites that each hold up to 20 people and a number of single-family sites. Many campsites offer lake views and are partially shaded by stands of aspen. Practical amenities at the campground include picnic tables, fire rings with grills, flush toilets, showers and drinking water; roads and parking spurs are paved. If you need additional services, three resorts in the Fish Lake Basin (open Memorial Day through Labor Day) provide camping supplies, RV parks with hookups, cabin and boat rentals, marinas, gas, groceries, restaurants, laundry and extra showers. For up-to-date fees, reservation rules or seasonal access, check the Fishlake National Forest office or recreation.gov before you go. The recreational draw here is the lake and the trails that fan out from it. Fish Lake is Utah's largest natural mountain lake at roughly 2,500 acres and is well known for its large Mackinaw lake trout (20 40 pounds); anglers also pursue rainbow trout and splake. Boating, canoeing, swimming and scuba diving are all popular on the lake itself, and the Lakeshore National Recreation Trail follows the east side of Fish Lake, gaining about 900 feet of elevation in places for wide lake views. For a more alpine hike, the 5-mile Pelican Canyon Trail begins nearby at Bowery Creek Campground and climbs through meadows and dense spruce, pine and aspen to the 11,633-foot Fish Lake Hightop. Johnson Valley Reservoir lies just north of Fish Lake for extra fishing and boating options, and the broader Fishlake National Forest supports biking, OHV use, horseback riding and camping, hunting, wildlife viewing, interpretive programs and a visitor center all useful to consider when planning a stay at Mackinaw.
