Ponderosa Campground sits at about 6,200 feet in Bear Canyon off the Nebo Loop Scenic Byway, roughly 10 miles from the town of Nephi. The campground is shaded by a historic stand of Ponderosa pines planted in 1914, with aspen and maple understory that gives the sites good separation and vivid fall color. Salt Creek runs along the edge of the campground and supports rainbow trout fishing close to camp, while the Bear Canyon Trail used by hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders is accessible from the nearby Bear Canyon Campground. The Mount Nebo Wilderness and the 37-mile Nebo Loop are immediate draws: both provide high-country trails, wildflower displays and wildlife viewing, and geological interest such as Devil's Kitchen, about six miles away, with its short half-mile trail to red rock hoodoos. The campground contains 23 single-family sites, and every site is configured to accommodate both RVs and tents; each site's published capacity is eight people plus one vehicle. Sites come with picnic tables and campfire rings, some include grills, and the paved roads and parking spurs make access straightforward for trailers and tow rigs. Vault toilets and drinking water are provided. Fees are $27 per overnight site, day-use picnicking in a campsite is $15, and extra vehicles are $10 each; payment options include cash, check, or Scan & Pay through the Recreation.gov app. Reservations and most policy transactions are handled through Recreation.gov (phone 1-877-444-6777) and facility-specific questions can be directed to (385) 273-1100. Note the reservation and cancellation terms: a $10 service fee applies to changes or cancellations, late cancellations (the day before or the day of arrival) generally incur the $10 fee and forfeiture of the first night's fee, and no-shows may be assessed an additional $20 service fee and forfeiture of use fees. Refund requests must be submitted within 14 days of scheduled departure, and Recreation.gov transaction charges will appear on statements as "Recreation.gov 877-444-6777."
