“It was a disaster. There was no camp host. The bathrooms were locked. The water was shut off. No firewood. Not what I expected since I’d paid money to stay there. The only plus side was the fact that no one else would stay so it was quiet. ”

Tinney Flat Campground sits at about 7,000 feet in Santaquin Canyon and is defined by a dense stand of cottonwoods shading tall evergreens, summer wildflowers and frequent wildlife sightings. Santaquin Creek runs along the edge of the loops and supports rainbow trout fishing within easy casting distance of campsites; the White Pine Hollow and Calkens Hollow trails begin inside the campground, so hikers can step directly onto quiet singletrack that leads toward the Mount Nebo Wilderness. The site development is straightforward and practical: picnic and serving tables, campfire circles with grills, vault toilets, potable drinking water, and paved roads and parking spurs. A campground host is on-site during the season, and the trees and views across the Wasatch Range make this a quiet base for fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing and scenic drives along the nearby Nebo Loop. For planning, note the campground's capacity and access details: there are 13 campsites total 11 that accommodate both RVs and tents and 2 RV-specific sites and, in addition, three group sites that each hold up to 50 people. The approach from the I-15 Santaquin exit follows Forest Road 014 into Santaquin Canyon on a paved but steep, narrow road; an alternative route from Payson via the Nebo Loop Scenic Byway drops onto a rougher canyon road. Tinney Flat is currently closed due to weather damage, so confirm status before you go by calling the forest office at (385) 273-1100 or checking Recreation.gov. Reservation and fee rules follow standard Recreation.gov policies: a $10 service fee applies to most changes or cancellations, late cancellations can forfeit the first night's fee, no-shows may incur a $20 service fee in addition to lost use fees, and refund requests must be made within 14 days of departure (for full details call 1-877-444-6777 or view the Recreation.gov policy pages).
