What guests say

Verbatim from guest reviews on Recreation.gov ↗ (6 reviews, ★ 4.0). Not written or edited by us.

“One of the most beautiful campsites I've ever stayed at, especially when the fall colors had come around when I was there. Reserving the site online made it so easy too! I will definitely come back to this campsite in the future.”

Bronson B 5 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“Beautiful area, way too many nasty cows.”

About

Perched at about 6,800 feet on the edge of the Mount Nebo Wilderness and directly off the Nebo Loop Scenic Byway, Bear Canyon Campground opens onto a broad grassy meadow bordered by aspen and fir. Salt Creek runs along the campground's edge and is regularly fished for rainbow trout, while the Bear Canyon Trail begins at the entrance and provides immediate access for hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders who want to follow canyon ridges into the wilderness. The surrounding landscape gives clear views of the Wasatch Range and quick access to high-country features: the 37-mile Nebo Loop offers an auto tour through alpine terrain and meadows, and Devil's Kitchen about six miles away has a short 1/2-mile trail to red rock hoodoos. Campsites themselves have few trees inside the group circles, so shade at individual sites is limited even though the campground is ringed with taller trees. Bear Canyon is laid out for groups rather than individual, small-site camping: there are three total group sites two that accept both RVs and tents and one tent-only site with paved roads, parking spurs and walking paths. Each site includes picnic tables, serving tables, grills and a campfire circle; vault toilets are provided. Capacity is large: Sites A and B each accommodate up to 75 people (each $134.00 per reservation), and Site C (tent-only) accommodates up to 50 people ($96.00). Day use picnicking in a campground site is $15.00 and extra vehicles are $10.00 each; payments accepted by cash, check, or Scan & Pay through the recreation.gov app. Reservations and changes are handled through Recreation.gov (transactions appear on statements as "Recreation.gov 877-444-6777"); a $10 service fee applies to most changes or cancellations, with additional penalties for late cancellations and no-shows and refund requests required within 14 days of departure. For facility-specific questions or current conditions call (385) 273-1100.
