“Quiet and largely off the beaten path. Minimal traffic noise with campsites along the creek. Vault toilet was extremely stinky--more than expected for an outdoor toilet.”

Intake Campground sits at 6,320 feet in South Willow Canyon on the western flank of the Stansbury Range, southwest of Grantsville, Utah. The site is small and intimate there are four single campsites, each configured to serve both RVs and tents and Willow Creek runs through the campground beneath stands of oak, maple and juniper that provide partial shade. Anglers will find rainbow and brown trout in the creek, and two multi-use trailheads (the Stansbury Front Trail and the Medina Flat Trail) begin just across the road, offering direct access into the rugged Deseret Peak Wilderness for day hikes or longer backcountry routes. Facilities are basic: each site has vehicle access and a vault restroom on site, but there is no potable water system, so bring all the water you need; the posted capacity is 8 people plus one vehicle per site, and additional vehicles are charged $10 each. Access is along South Willow Canyon Road, a mostly paved, scenic drive that turns to gravel near the National Forest boundary; the road's last 4 miles are unpaved, relatively steep and narrow, and pitted in places, so it's not recommended for trailers even though most vehicles can make the route. Intake is one of five Forest Service campgrounds along the road, and seasonal conditions matter: snow commonly lingers on upper sections from November through mid-June, and the upper end of the road reaches about 7,470 feet at the Deseret Peak Trailhead. Campsites cost $20 for the single sites, day use is $15, and payment options include cash, check or "scan & pay" at the site; reservations and billing are handled through Recreation.gov. Reservation rules include a $10 service fee withheld on cancellations, a $10 change fee for switching dates outside the original booking window, and late cancellations (the day before or day of arrival) incur the $10 service fee plus forfeiture of the first night's use fee; no-shows are assessed a $20 service fee and forfeit the first night's recreation fee. Interagency pass discounts apply only to the recreation fee for individual campsites (Senior and Golden Age/Access passes and the Access/Senior Lifetime equivalents) and the pass holder must occupy the site; refunds and other policy details follow Recreation.gov procedures.
