Cottonwood Campground sits at about 6,080 feet in South Willow Canyon on the southwest side of Grantsville in the Stansbury Range, reached by a short gravel spur roughly 0.7 miles up the canyon from the Forest boundary. The site occupies a remote, desert-canyon setting where oak, maple and juniper provide partial shade and Willow Creek threads through the camp area; anglers can fish for rainbow and brown trout right from the creek. Trails begin immediately across the road both the multi-use Stansbury Front Trail and the Medina Flat Trail provide direct access into more rugged terrain and route into the Deseret Peak Wilderness so it's a good base for day hikes, horseback outings and wildlife viewing in the surrounding national forest. The campground's character is intentionally primitive: one campsite is provided that accommodates both RVs and tents, and the spot will appeal to people seeking a quiet, low-capacity stop rather than developed campground services. Facilities and practical details are straightforward and important to plan around: there is no drinking water on site, so bring everything you need, and the only toilet is a vault restroom. Fees are handled by cash, check, or Scan & Pay and are posted as: single site $20.00, double site $36.00, day use $15.00, with extra vehicles charged $10.00 each. Reservations and refunds follow Recreation.gov policy canceling in advance will incur a $10 service fee and late cancellations (the day before or day of arrival) generally forfeit the first night's use fee; no-shows are assessed a $20 service fee and the first night's fee is forfeited. Interagency pass discounts (Senior Annual/Lifetime, Access, Golden Age/Access) apply only to individual campsites and only to the recreation fee, and the pass holder must occupy the site to receive the discount. If you need a refund after your stay, submit a request through your Recreation.gov profile within seven days of the reservation end date; debit/credit refunds go back to the original card and cash/check refunds are issued by Treasury check. For billing questions, Recreation.gov charges appear as "Recreation.gov 877-444-6777 NM" on statements, and policies are subject to change per Recreation.gov updates.
