“Was easily accessible and a very quiet area. Would recommend! ”
“Left early due to the poor accommodations this is a remote campsite where they don’t think that they need to put TP in the restrooms. All the restrooms had no toilet paper in them. There’s no trash receptacles for us to put our garbage in.”
“I loved the spot we had. Only issue is bathroom door did not lock. ”

Alder Glen sits along the Nestucca River National Back Country Byway as the Bureau of Land Management's easternmost campground in the Nestucca River Recreation Area, offering a quiet, small-scale base for river-focused outings in the Coast Range. The site contains 11 campsites each configured to accommodate both RVs and tents with paved parking, a picnic table and a steel fire ring at every site. Inside the loop are two vault toilets and a centralized well that provides potable water when seasonal conditions allow; there is also an accessible trail that leads to a fishing and viewing platform on the Nestucca Wild and Scenic River. Alder Glen is one of four BLM campgrounds along the Byway (37 sites total across the four sites) and gives direct access to the river for fishing, paddling and swimming, plus miles of country roads for hiking, biking and wildlife viewing; the Upper Nestucca OHV area (Whipup Flat, Elk Flat and Grassy Flat) is nearby, but Oregon ATV permits are required for OHV use. Plan ahead for access, seasonality and campground rules: camping season is generally May September, though Alder Glen and Elk Bend remain open through the weekend following the General Western Oregon Coast second elk season; during darker months the potable well may be turned off, so bring drinking water if needed. Reserve on recreation.gov or pay on arrival using the Recreation.gov mobile app (download the app before you reach the site there is no cell reception in the drainage). The campsite fee is $15 per night and includes one vehicle; an extra camping vehicle fee of $5 is collected at the site; additional service fees apply and are non-refundable. Cash or check payable to Bureau of Land Management is accepted display the fee envelope receipt stub on your dash. Fires are allowed only in provided steel fire rings or BBQ grills, firewood collection at developed campgrounds is prohibited, and you must pack out all trash. Be aware of seasonal and operational hazards: the Nestucca Byway is closed east of Elk Bend due to a landslide, the Whipup Staging Area and Nathan's Trail have scheduled closures (12/4/23 11/1/24) for forest management call the Tillamook Field Office at (503) 815-1100 for current conditions and log trucks use these roads year-round; the Byway can become hazardous from snow and ice in winter.
