“Have to say the Camp Host for this location is a round peg in a round hole....what a great guy....there to help at anytime even when he seemed to be off duty. Definitely an asset to Sand Lake Dunes ”
“pictures of the sight were very deceiving, no fire ring ,no flat spot for tent ,no quiet time at all . I will never stay in the east camping lot ever again .”

East Dunes Campground sits inside the Sand Lake Recreation Area along the Oregon coast, where open sand dunes meet forest and the nearby Pacific shoreline. The campground has a total of 59 campsites all configured for RVs with paved parking aprons that make backing in and leveling easier for trailers and motorhomes. Basic but dependable facilities include drinking water, flush toilets, and metal campfire rings at every site; cell phone service is limited now, though there are plans to add boosters. The site layout is split between two parking areas: Sites 1 37 (Lower East Dunes Parking Lot) are available first-come, first-served all year, while Sites 38 59 (Upper East Dunes Parking Lot) can be reserved up to six months in advance throughout the year. For planning or questions about the facility call (503) 392-5100. What draws most campers here is direct access to nearly 1,100 acres of coastal sand dunes where off-highway vehicle (OHV) use is the main attraction; riders can spend hours looping across the dune field directly from the campground. Beyond the dunes, the adjacent Sand Lake Estuary a roughly 900-acre near-natural estuary provides quieter water-based options such as fishing, crabbing, swimming, and kayaking, plus hiking and wildlife viewing (waterfowl are common). The broader Siuslaw National Forest and surrounding coast also support biking, boating, horseback riding, interpretive programs, picnicking, and other outdoor pursuits, so whether you come for OHV play or a mix of activities, East Dunes offers a practical, vehicle-friendly base with straightforward year-round access from the Pacific City Tillamook corridor.
