Sandbeach Campground sits on the inland edge of the Sand Lake Recreation Area a few miles off Highway 101 between Pacific City and Tillamook, where coastal forest gives way to open dunes and the Pacific is never far away. The campground contains 82 reservable sites, each configured to accommodate both RVs and tents, and is set up to support off-road vehicle use: paved parking aprons, an on-site ORV loading ramp, and direct year-round access to the dunes (the Sand Lake area comprises roughly 1,076 acres of open sand). Basic campground facilities include drinking water, flush toilets and individual campfire rings; there are no additional hookups listed, so rigs should plan accordingly. The climate here is strongly influenced by the ocean, with cool summers and moderate winters, and facility-specific questions can be directed to the Siuslaw office at (503) 392-5100. Sites are reservable until further notice, so make reservations in advance if you need a guaranteed spot. The primary reason most people come is the sand: the campground functions as a staging area for off-highway vehicle riding across nearly 1,100 acres of coastal dunes, and the layout reflects that focus with wide vehicle aprons and easy access to groomed riding areas. Beyond ORV use, the nearby Sand Lake Estuary and surrounding forest offer a wider range of activities fishing, crabbing, swimming, kayaking, hiking and wildlife viewing are all available within the recreation area, and waterfowl are common in the estuary's near-natural wetlands. The Siuslaw National Forest broader network also supports biking, boating, horseback riding, interpretive programs, picnicking and other outdoor pursuits, so Sandbeach works well as a base for mixing high-speed dune runs with quieter estuary walks and paddling.
