“The camping location was situated near a river on both sides of the campground. Potable water was an added benefit. Restrooms were close and clean. There are only 10 campsites, which was perfect for our camping experience.”
“Great place, Well cared for by camp host”

Dovre Recreation Site sits on the lower reaches of the Nestucca River Back Country Byway in Oregon's Coast Range, where a quiet ribbon of road follows the newly designated Nestucca Wild and Scenic River. This compact campground is the Bureau of Land Management's westernmost site in the Nestucca River Recreation Area and feels deliberately small-scale: 10 campsites in all, nine that accommodate both RVs and tents and one that's tent-only. Campsites have paved parking spaces, a picnic table and a steel fire ring, and an accessible trail leads down to a fishing/viewing platform on the river. The nearby river and riparian woods create straightforward options for fishing, paddling, day use, wildlife viewing and short hikes; the larger recreation area also supports biking, paddling and ATV/OHV riding in designated zones (an Oregon ATV permit is required for OHV areas). Practical details are straightforward but important for planning: the camping season at Dovre generally runs May through September, potable water can be shut off during low-light months so you should be prepared with your own wash and drinking water, and there is no cell reception in the drainage download the Recreation.gov mobile app before you arrive if you plan to pay at-site or use reservations. Sites are $15 per night (one vehicle included) with a $5 fee for each additional camping vehicle; a group shelter, when available, is $50 per day; cash or check payable to Bureau of Land Management is accepted and you must display the fee envelope stub on your dash. Fires are allowed only in the provided rings or BBQ grills, firewood collection is prohibited in the developed campgrounds, and you must pack out your trash. Be aware of seasonal and operational notices across the Byway: the Nestucca Byway is closed east of Elk Bend campground due to a landslide, Whipup Staging Area and Nathan's Trail have been closed for forest operations through 11/1/24, and Bible Creek Access Road has reopened (flaggers may be present during cleanup). Finally, watch for log trucks on the Byway year-round and remember that winter snow and ice can make the route hazardous.
