“Lovely spot. The river was low but still flowing and delightful. Surprisingly there were no mosquitoes. Disappointed there was a fire ban since it’s in such a wet local. ”
“The eleven site campground is by a creek which is nice with many access points. But the sites are too open for my comfort. There is no forest growth between sites to give some privacy. ”
“Campsite 5/6 Are absolutely horrendous and not worth paying for. Arrived to find out we were 2 feet from a different site and didnt even have room to put up our tent, ended up booking a different site and just double paying.”

Fan Creek Recreation Site sits in the middle stretch of the Nestucca River Recreation Area, alongside the Nestucca Wild and Scenic River where the byway follows a gentle, wooded corridor of Oregon's Coast Range. The campground is intentionally small 10 sites in total and each site is configured to accommodate both tents and RVs with a paved parking pad, picnic table and a steel fire ring. A short accessible trail leads from the loop down to a fishing/viewing platform on the river, and a group shelter provides covered space for family gatherings. Anglers will find the river's runs close at hand, and the larger recreation area offers biking, hiking, paddling and wildlife viewing; the Nestucca OHV area (Whipup Flat, Elk Flat and Grassy Flat) is also nearby for riders who carry the required Oregon ATV permit. Practical details matter here: the campground's centralized well supplies potable water and there are two vault toilets, but during months with reduced daylight the water may be turned off bring your own drinking and wash water if visiting outside the core May September camping season. Sites cost $15 per night (one vehicle included) with a $5 charge for each additional vehicle; payment is by cash or check payable to the Bureau of Land Management using the fee envelope system and the receipt stub must be displayed on your dash. You can reserve sites through Recreation.gov or pay at arrival with the Recreation.gov mobile app, but download the app before you reach the drainage because there's no cell reception. Fires are allowed only in the provided rings or on grills, collecting firewood at the developed campgrounds is prohibited, and you must pack out your trash. Note current access cautions for the broader byway: the Nestucca Byway is closed east of Elk Bend due to a landslide, Whipup Staging Area and Nathan's Trail have a temporary closure for forest management (contact Tillamook Field Office at 503-815-1100 for updates), and Bible Creek Access Road has been reopened with flaggers on site during cleanup expect occasional log trucks and changing road conditions, and remember the Byway can become hazardous in snow or ice. Fees are standard and non-refundable; see Recreation.gov for reservation policies.
