“A beautiful site, multiple families were able to camp comfortably and each of the tent sites are pretty level. The big fire pit is a great size for everyone to gather together. Gorgeous views down by the river. Will be back. ”
“Great spot with a nice swimming hole. The sites are a ways from the road so bring a handtruck.”

NOTICE up front: the Nestucca Byway is closed east of Elk Bend campground because of a landslide, and Whipup Staging Area (and Nathan's Trail) will be closed from 12/4/23 to 11/1/24 for active forest management call the Tillamook Field Office at (503) 815-1100 for updates. Camping at Elk Bend is primarily a seasonal, self-contained experience: the campground operates mostly May through September (with Alder Glen and Elk Bend remaining open through the weekend after the General Western Oregon Coast 2nd Season for elk), potable water is seasonal and may be turned off in darker months so plan to bring your own drinking and wash water if you visit outside peak summer. Reservations can be made through Recreation.gov (or by paying on arrival through the Recreation.gov mobile app), but there is no cell reception in the drainage so download the app before you arrive. The single available campsite at Elk Bend is configured for both RV and tent use; the posted fee is $75 per night for a group up to 25 people, with $2.50 per night for each additional person and standard non-refundable service fees. Onsite you'll find one paved, centralized parking area, a vault toilet, a picnic table and a steel fire ring at the campsite; fires are allowed only in the provided rings or on grills, and collecting firewood within the developed campgrounds is prohibited. Elk Bend sits along the slow, river-side route of the Nestucca River National Back Country Byway and alongside the newly designated Nestucca Wild and Scenic River, placing anglers and paddlers close to good river access and photographers within easy reach of wildlife viewing and riparian scenery. The wider Nestucca River Recreation Area supports biking, hiking, fishing, paddling, swimming and day-use picnicking; the nearby Nestucca OHV Area (Whipup Flat, Elk Flat and Grassy Flat) requires an Oregon ATV permit if you plan to ride. Access is most commonly from Highway 101 at Beaver via Blaine Road to the Nestucca Byway (about seven miles inland), with alternate approaches from Willamina or Carlton that join the same backcountry route. Practical cautions: log trucks use the Byway year-round, weather can make the road hazardous with snow or ice, and Bible Creek Access Road has reopened but contractors may be flagging traffic during cleanup. Pack out all trash, follow reservation and fee policies on Recreation.gov, and check current closures before you go.
