Packard Creek sits on the western shore of Hills Creek Reservoir on a broad, level bench of land shaded by tall hemlock, Douglas-fir and red cedar, with clear sightlines down to the water. The campground offers 38 individual sites that accommodate both tents and RVs; each site includes a picnic table and campfire ring, and about 14 of the sites can be reserved in advance. A separate reservable group campground holds up to 80 people and features a large picnic shelter and open tenting space. Most of the campground is accessible, and several campsites provide their own individual boat docks a handy feature for anglers and small-boat owners while the day-use area nearby has a boat ramp, a swimming area and a fishing dock. Recreation centers on the lake and the Larison Creek Trail: boaters, swimmers and anglers find plenty to do on the 2,735-acre Hills Creek Reservoir (44 miles of shoreline), where common catches include catfish, bluegill, crappie and coho salmon. The Larison Creek Trail runs along Larison Cove and Larison Creek and is popular for mountain biking, horseback riding and hiking through lush riparian vegetation. Packard Creek is a family-friendly jumping-off point for broader Willamette National Forest activities from wildlife viewing and picnicking to horse camping, off-highway vehicle routes and winter sports and the small town of Oakridge with its railroad-era history and nearby forest hot springs is the closest service point. Because site availability, fees and seasonal openings can change, plan to check the Forest Service or Recreation.gov for current reservation details and any access or fee updates before you go.
