“Lovely shaded site, we come here a lot. Spotlessly clean, great hosts!”

Black Canyon Campground sits along the Middle Fork of the Willamette River in the Willamette National Forest, shaded under tall hemlock, cedar and Douglas fir with several campsites right on the river's edge. The site count is small 19 campsites total and every site is set up to accommodate both tents and recreational vehicles, each with a picnic table and a campfire ring with a grill. The campground provides drinking water and accessible vault toilets; because site numbers are limited and conditions can change with the season, check the Forest Service or recreation.gov for current fees, reservation options and seasonal closures before you go. Road access is straightforward: Black Canyon is west of Oakridge on Highway 58, about eight miles from town and roughly a mile east of Lookout Point Reservoir, so you're close to lake services and supplies while still camping in a forest river corridor. Outdoor opportunities cluster tightly around the campground. A one-mile interpretive nature trail winds through the loop, and less than a mile away Lookout Point Lake offers a boat ramp for anglers and boaters; fishing and kayaking are common pastimes here. The wider Willamette National Forest supports roughly 1,700 miles of trails and a spread of activities biking, horseback riding and off-highway vehicle routes are nearby in the Winberry Trail Area (including the Tire Mountain Trail and the Clover Patch Trail), and the forest as a whole also offers swimming, wildlife viewing, winter sports and access to fire lookouts and cabins. Elevation in the forest varies dramatically from about 1,500 feet to over 10,000 feet at Mt. Jefferson, and local wildlife includes black-tailed deer, Roosevelt elk, bobcats and bald eagles, so bring appropriate clothing, storage for food, and gear suited to river and trail activities.
