Ivan Oakes Campground sits on the northern shore of Lookout Point Lake in the Calapooya Mountains, about 22 miles southeast of Eugene and within easy reach of the Willamette National Forest. The Eugene-to-Pacific Crest Trail runs along the campground, so hikers can step directly onto a long-distance route that links Eugene to the Cascades, and anglers will find the reservoir a reliable spot for chinook salmon, walleye, rainbow trout, largemouth bass and crappie. Boating and water sports are common here Signal Point boat ramp is less than a mile west and can be used at low water while the surrounding woodlands support abundant wildlife: waterfowl, blacktail deer, upland game birds, wintering elk, bald eagles and osprey are all part of the local scene. Weather in the recreation season tends to be mild, with typical daytime temperatures from the low 50s to the upper 90s and higher chances of precipitation from May through mid-June, so pack layers and rain gear if you visit in late spring. Ivan Oakes is intentionally simple in its amenities: 24 single-family campsites that accommodate both tents and RVs are spread through a semi-primitive setting, each equipped with a picnic table and a metal fire ring; potable water and vault toilets are on site. There are no pay stations at the campground since May 2022 all reservations and payments must be made in advance through Recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777 so plan and book ahead. Reservation changes and cancellations are handled through the same system; a $10 service fee applies to changes or cancellations, and last-minute cancellations (the day before or on the day of arrival) for individual sites also forfeit the first night's use fee. No-shows are assessed a $20 service fee plus forfeiture of the first night's fee; partial refunds for early departures may be available if you notify staff or request a refund through your Recreation.gov profile within seven days of the reservation end.
