Cavitt Creek Falls Recreation Site sits at about 1,050 feet in a canopy of fir, maple and cedar, and feels like a local hideaway along the North Umpqua corridor. The small campground has 10 sites built on three terraced levels, each designed to serve both tent campers and RVs (all ten sites are configured for either type), with a strict maximum vehicle length of 34 feet. Basic on-site facilities include drinking water, vault toilets, a day-use area with tables and a grill, and a stairway that leads down to the swimming hole at the base of a six-foot waterfall. Note the reservation rules: you must make a reservation at least five days before arrival, there are no on-site transactions, and any posted "FF" (first-come, first-served) availability should be disregarded. Recreation at Cavitt Creek is straightforward and seasonal: most visitors come to picnic, relax, and cool off in the swimming hole on hot days, while anglers can fish Cavitt Creek and nearby Little River for trout using artificial flies and lures only (typical trout season runs from late May through mid-September check Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife for exact dates and regulations). In autumn the waterfall draws attention for leaping salmon. The site also serves as a convenient base for exploring the wider North Umpqua corridor you're a short drive from the Wolf Creek Falls trail (a 1.2-mile walk through old-growth forest to a two-tier cascade), and within easy reach of North Umpqua rafting, long-distance routes on the 79-mile North Umpqua Trail, and the Rogue Umpqua National Scenic Byway. From Roseburg the recreation site is reached by following Highway 138 east and then south on Little River Road and connecting roads roughly a 25 30 mile drive into the forested river valley.
