“Generators running past curfews. People driving and using train horns and playing music well into the night. Zero response from park hosts. Was NOT happy with this. Facility was nice and dock was good for our boat. Wish camp host was more attentive to park rules. ”
“The camp hosts do an excellent job of keeping the campground clean and orderly.”
“we been going there for 42 yrs. its a excellant place to go camping. We love it. Nice bog campsites.”

Perry South Campground occupies a high-desert shoreline on Lake Billy Chinook in central Oregon, roughly 34 miles northwest of Sisters via Highway 20 and the forest-road network. The site layout accommodates a wide range of campers: there are 84 campsites in total, including 30 boat-in sites, 49 sites suitable for both RVs and tents, and 5 tent-only sites. The campground is organized into distinct loops Docks (30 sites), LOWE (27 sites), UPPE (19 sites), a small Hike-To loop (3 sites) and a single Double site so you can pick water-access camping or a more traditional drive-in spot. Facilities are straightforward and practical: a concrete boat ramp, two docks available for tie-up on a first-come, first-served basis, reservable boat slips through the Park Host, picnic areas, drinking water, vault toilets and firewood for sale. Lake Billy Chinook's clear, cold water fills the canyons of the Crooked, Metolius and Deschutes Rivers and supports some 72 miles of shoreline and healthy fish populations bass, trout, salmon, whitefish and several forage species so anglers and boaters are the primary visitors here. Recreation at Perry South centers on water: motorized and non-motorized boating, fishing, swimming and water skiing are common, and hikers can reach nearby viewpoints such as Balancing Rocks Overlook; Tam-a-lau Trail, the Metolius River corridor and the Lava Lands Visitor Center are close enough for day trips. Practical details to plan for: day-use parking passes are $5 (PGE honors NW Forest Pass and the America the Beautiful passes), boat slips can be reserved by checking with the Park Host, and reservations are charged in full to your credit card at booking some sites may also incur a non-refundable online reservation fee; changing or canceling a reservation will usually incur a service fee and late cancellations can carry additional charges (see Recreation.gov Rules & Reservation Policies). The campground is staffed seasonally staff are on site between 05/26/2023 and 09/09/2023 (local staff: (541) 325-5315); outside that staffed period it is unstaffed (general information: (503) 464-8515). Beyond the immediate shoreline activities, Deschutes National Forest supports a wide range of outdoor pursuits, including biking, horseback riding, OHV use, winter sports and wildlife viewing, so Perry South makes a practical base whether you're launching a boat, casting a line, or exploring the surrounding sage-and-forest terrain.
