About

Hyatt Lake Recreation Area occupies a high, forested corner of the Cascade Siskiyou National Monument about 20 miles east of Ashland on Highway 66. At roughly 5,200 feet elevation the treed shorelines give way to long views of Mt. McLoughlin and access to the Pacific Crest Trail; the facility also sits on Hyatt Reservoir, an 880-acre surface with about six miles of shoreline that supports fishing for rainbow trout, largemouth bass and brook trout (fishing season typically runs late April through October). The water is managed as a 10 mph "no-wake" lake, so most boating is low-speed canoes, kayaks and small motorboats launch from two boat ramps with docks in the main campground, while Wildcat Campground has an undeveloped boat launch. Beyond boating and fishing, the site supports hiking, swimming, horseback riding and mountain biking in summer and cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and sledding in winter when the campground is closed to vehicle camping but the area remains accessible to winter recreationists. The developed camping complex totals 63 rentable sites and a handful of group facilities: 44 sites are in three loops at Hyatt Lake Campground (Loop A 16 sites, Loop B 12 sites, Loop C 16 sites), Wildcat Campground provides 12 primitive sites, and a separate Equestrian Campground has five corral-equipped, reservation-only horse sites; in all there are 56 sites suitable for both RVs and tents, five equestrian-only sites and two tent-only sites. On-site amenities at the main campground include showers, flush toilets, a playground, two boat ramps with docks and an RV dump station; Wildcat has two vault toilets. For groups the Mountain View Group Shelter (seating and facilities for up to 120 people with electric stove, running water and a large fireplace) and the Osprey Kitchen (covered cooking area, grill and group fire ring for about 40 people) are reservable separately. Campsites must be reserved in advance through Recreation.gov (day-use parking and permits are first-come, first-served via self-pay stations at the main entrance and Wildcat), and posted fees apply: Hyatt Lake Campground sites $12 weeknights / $15 weekends, Wildcat $7 per night, Equestrian sites $10 per night, Mountain View Shelter $100/day and Osprey Kitchen $95/night. For facility-specific questions call (541) 618-2200; the campground entrance and entry booth are reached by turning north onto East Hyatt Lake Road off Highway 66 near the Green Springs Inn.
