Wahoo Bay sits just north of the Fort Gibson Dam on Fort Gibson Lake the Grand (Neosho) River widened into nearly 20,000 acres of water about 5 miles northwest of historic Fort Gibson and roughly 7.7 miles above where the Grand meets the Arkansas River. The campground occupies a shady cove on a lake with some 225 miles of shoreline, so sites feel tucked into trees with ready access to the main body of the lake. Boaters will appreciate two on-site ramps and a courtesy dock at the primary ramp for easy launching, and several nearby marinas and stores make it simple to pick up supplies or rent equipment; boat and RV storage facilities are available within a few miles. Wahoo Bay is oriented toward water recreation swimming, boating and general water sports are the obvious draws but the wider Fort Gibson Lake area also supports hiking, biking, horseback riding, picnicking, playground use, environmental education opportunities, and wildlife viewing on the thousands of acres of public lands along the shore. The campground itself has 20 campsites, and each site is set up to accommodate both RVs and tents; there are several water hookups distributed through the park and a vault toilet located by the boat ramp parking lot. Anglers come for black bass, white bass, crappie and a variety of catfish and panfish, and the lake maintains three heated fishing docks that extend the season into winter for crappie fishing. Hunters using the larger area will find white-tailed deer, bobwhite quail, mourning dove, ducks, geese, cottontail rabbits and squirrels on the public lands around the reservoir. Practical notes: cancellations made 48 hours or more before a reservation begin will incur a $10 cancellation fee; cancellations made within 24 hours of the reservation start are charged a late cancellation fee equal to $10 plus the first night's camping fee.
