Flat Rock Creek sits on the east shore of Flat Rock Bay at Fort Gibson Lake in northeastern Oklahoma, in the oak-hickory hills near Chouteau and Wagoner. The campground opens onto a protected shallow cove that makes launching a kayak or canoe easy and provides a calm spot for swimmers and paddlers away from the main lake traffic. Fort Gibson Lake itself stretches to nearly 20,000 acres with about 225 miles of shoreline and is known locally for strong fishing expect black bass, white bass, crappie and several varieties of catfish and panfish, and the lake maintains three heated fishing docks that extend the season for winter crappie anglers. Wildlife is plentiful on the surrounding public hunting lands; whitetail deer, turkey, waterfowl, cottontail rabbit and squirrel are common, and the campground's westward views over Flat Rock Bay deliver notable evening sunsets. For general access, follow Highway 412 east from Tulsa, then south on Highway 69 toward Wagoner before turning onto county roads toward Chouteau; the park's GPS address is 31291 E. 670 Rd., Chouteau, OK 74337. The campground has 32 sites in total: 31 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents and one tent-only site. The site inventory described by park staff includes 30 family sites with electric hookups plus one group day-use picnic shelter that also has electric, and an additional first-come, first-served site without hookups. Amenities include flush and pit toilets, drinking water, showers, a dump station and a boat ramp, and while the campground operates seasonally the park notes that visitors can use the facilities year-round. Flat Rock Creek's remote, family-friendly character makes it a popular base for boating, swimming, fishing and wildlife viewing; the broader Fort Gibson Lake recreation area also supports hiking, biking, horseback riding, picnicking, playgrounds and other concession activities. Note the reservation cancellation policy: cancellations made 48 hours or more before your reservation incur a $10 cancellation fee, while cancellations within 24 hours incur a late cancellation charge equal to $10 plus the first night's camping fee.
