“we were their in mid October the place was well maintained and clean. The weather was great. Park had very few campers. will stop again.”
“Nice level sites, not much shade. We camped in the B loop earlier this year, but it is currently closed, possibly due to flooding in June?”

Virgil Point Campground sits on a grassy bench along the shoreline of Hugo Lake in southeast Oklahoma, where stands of mixed forest give way to open water and limestone banks. The campground offers 52 campsites in all: 51 of those accommodate both RVs and tents, while one site is designated RV-only, so groups with a mix of rigs and tents usually find flexible placement. Sites are described as spacious and modern, and a boat ramp on-site makes getting a boat into the lake straightforward whether you're launching for a morning of water sports or an afternoon of boating and picnicking. The immediate recreation mix also includes a playground and a specialized sport site, and the broader area supports horseback riding and lodge-style accommodations at privately owned facilities nearby; Hugo Lake is about a 10-mile drive east of the town of Hugo and then a short distance north on Highway 147, so the campground is easy to reach from regional highways. The lake and surrounding management lands shape much of the activity here. Hugo Lake's northern half is flooded timber, which creates consistently productive fishing expect sand bass and slab crappie in spring and early summer, late-season bass in fall, and strong catfishing through the summer months; the Kiamichi River downstream also fishes well. Hunters have access to large tracts: the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation manages more than 18,000 acres around the lake, with an additional roughly 8,000 acres under Corps of Engineers supervision, and nearby Kiamichi Park provides an archery practice range, a shooting range and a 3,000-acre Quality Deer Management Area. Wildlife is abundant for casual viewing too, from waterfowl and dove to whitetail deer, mink, fox and beaver. Practical notes for planning: payment in full is charged at reservation, major credit cards are accepted online or by phone, and a $10 non-refundable online reservation fee may apply for some facilities; changing or cancelling a reservation carries a $10 service fee and late cancellations can incur extra charges, so check the Recreation.gov reservation policy before you book.
