Sanders Cove sits along the shore of Pat Mayse Lake, a roughly 6,000-acre impoundment with about 67 miles of shoreline tucked into gently rolling grasslands and mixed hardwood stands punctuated by mature pines. The lake's shallow coves and fingers make it a practical base for boating and water sports, and anglers can expect largemouth bass, white crappie, sunfish, striped bass and both channel and flathead catfish among the catchable species. The surrounding acres are actively managed for upland game and whitetail deer, and you'll also find fox and gray squirrels, bobwhite quail, mourning doves, cottontail rabbits and the usual furbearers such as beaver, mink and nutria. A few miles north lie the Red River Bottoms, where migratory waterfowl gather in significant numbers; Sanders Cove provides close access for campers who want morning shoreline birding or an afternoon on the water. The campground is open year-round and contains 89 individual sites: 83 designed to accommodate both RVs and tents, one designated RV-only site, and five tent-only sites. Practical facilities are in place for extended stays and boat users there's a boat ramp, a dump station, drinking water, showers and both flush and pit toilets and the park's easy road access makes it popular with families who come for camping, picnicking and swimming as much as for fishing or wildlife viewing. Fees and reservation rules can change, so plan to check with the park office or managing authority before you go for current rates, reservation options and hunting-season regulations if you intend to pursue upland or big-game opportunities nearby.
