West Lake Davy Crockett sits on the northwest shore of the 450-acre Lake Davy Crockett (built in the 1930s), within the National Forests and Grasslands in Texas. The recreation area was developed in 1968 and the campground itself is extremely small there is a single campsite that accommodates both RVs and tents. Shore fishing is explicitly allowed, so anglers can expect direct lake access from the campsite. This location operates strictly on a first-come, first-served basis: you must physically arrive to claim and pay for the site. If available, payment can be completed on-site by scanning a QR code and using the Recreation.gov mobile app's Scan and Pay feature, so download the free Recreation.gov app before you get here because cellular service in this part of the forest can be limited or nonexistent. Because there is only one site, the experience is quiet and focused on the lake rather than on campground amenities plan accordingly and bring necessary water, power, and camping supplies unless you confirm otherwise in advance.
