“Quiet and peaceful. Exactly what I was looking for. ”
“The bathrooms are in need of an update and thorough cleaning. The ones without shower are outhouses. Lake was nice. Seen some otters. Overall , park needs some TLC.”

Pat Mayse West Campground sits on the shoreline of Pat Mayse Lake in the Red River Basin of Lamar County, about 12 miles north of Paris, Texas, just a mile south of Chicota and a few miles northwest of Powderly. The lake itself covers nearly 6,000 acres with roughly 67 miles of shoreline set among gently rolling grasslands and mixed hardwoods punctuated by mature pines; wildlife is abundant. Anglers come for a long list of sport fish largemouth bass, white crappie, sunfish, striped bass and channel and flathead catfish are all present while hunters will find surrounding lands managed for upland game and whitetail deer, with smaller game and furbearers such as fox and gray squirrels, bobwhite quail, mourning dove, cottontail rabbit, raccoon, opossum, beaver, mink, skunk and nutria also reported. The lake and nearby Red River Bottoms provide important resting and feeding habitat for migratory waterfowl, making fall and winter visits rewarding for birdwatchers and hunters alike. The campground is open year-round and provides 85 campsites, each suitable for both RVs and tents, with on-site conveniences designed to support boating and day-use recreation as well as overnight stays. Park facilities include flush and pit toilets, showers, potable drinking water, a dump station and a boat ramp, so you can plan for boating, water sports, picnicking and wildlife viewing without needing to bring everything with you. Because fees, reservation policies and hunting regulations can change, contact the park office or managing agency before you go to confirm current rules and to reserve a site if needed. Access is straightforward from the Paris area via Highway 271 north; once in the vicinity the campsites are easy to reach, making Pat Mayse West a solid base for fishing, camping and exploring the lake's shoreline.
