Sarge Creek Campground sits on the eastern shore of Kaw Lake, a 17,000-acre reservoir with 168 miles of shoreline at roughly 1,010 feet elevation, and offers a compact, serviceable base for lake-focused camping and equestrian use. The campground provides 52 sites total; every one of them is configured to serve both RVs and tents, and many include electric hookups alongside nearby drinking water and flush toilets. For visitors traveling with horses, campsites 1 7 are set up for equestrian camping and horse pens are provided, and there's a single large group campsite at Sarge Creek that can hold up to about 60 people. A concrete boat ramp at the campground gives anglers and boaters direct access to Kaw Lake; for additional services, there are two full-service marinas elsewhere on the lake (McFadden Cove and Pioneer Park). If you need to reserve the group site or check on nightly fees and availability, contact the Kaw Lake Office (9400 Lake Road, Ponca City, OK 74604; 580-762-5611; od-fkk@swt02.swt.usace.army.mil). The surrounding landscape frames a strong set of outdoor opportunities: anglers come for large channel catfish as well as crappie, white (sand) bass and walleye, while hunters find healthy populations of whitetail deer, turkey, quail, rabbit and squirrel in season. Equestrians and hikers will appreciate direct access to the Five Fingers Equestrian Trail, which runs from Sarge Creek to Burbank Landing, and can link to the roughly 12-mile Eagle View Hiking Trail between Osage Cove and Burbank Landing; note that both trails are closed during Oklahoma's deer rifle and primitive firearms seasons. Kaw Lake is also a winter birding destination one of Oklahoma's larger wintering populations of bald eagles congregates here, with peak viewing usually shortly after the new year through January so bring binoculars and plan your trips around season closures and local regulations.
