“Great campground, so very impressive the bathrooms are private including shower and ADA compliant.”
“I enjoy camping here really close to the dam ”
“Great camp sight but the bathroom either flushed all the time or not at all then got locked so only 1 bathroom for the all the paying campers but the outside non paying people showering felt a little unsafe ”

Sandy Park sits just below the Kaw Lake Dam on the Arkansas River, in a rural, wooded stretch of north central Oklahoma about eight miles east of Ponca City. The campground offers 12 campsites in total; each site is configured to serve both RVs and tents and many feel roomy enough for a family setup. Sites alternate between sunny clearings and cooler, shaded spots beneath native trees, and the loop includes modern conveniences electric hookups at sites, drinking water, and flush toilets so you can travel light but still plug in. A public boat ramp at Sandy Park provides quick water access for anglers and boaters, and a designated swimming area at the park gives families a place to wade or swim when conditions are suitable. For scale, Kaw Lake itself covers roughly 17,000 surface acres with 168 miles of shoreline at a normal elevation of 1,010 feet, so even a short shoreline walk from the campground opens up big water views and room to spread out. The recreational options around Sandy Park reflect the broader Kaw Lake recreation area: boating, water sports, and fishing are primary draws (the lake is known for large catfish as well as crappie, white bass and walleye), and there are two full-service marinas at McFadden Cove and Pioneer Park if you need fuel or tackle. Hikers and riders use the Eagle View Trail (about 12 miles between Osage Cove and Burbank Landing) and the Five Fingers Equestrian Trail (from Burbank Landing to Sarge Creek Cove); note both trails close during Oklahoma's deer rifle and primitive firearms seasons. Wildlife viewing is strong year-round fall draws migrating ducks and geese, and Kaw Lake hosts one of the state's largest wintering populations of bald eagles with peak viewing shortly after the new year through January while upland hunters will find deer, turkey, quail, rabbit and squirrel in season. For reservations, fees, seasonal availability or any special access requirements, contact the Kaw Lake Office (9400 Lake Road, Ponca City, OK 74604), phone 580-762-5611 or email od-fkk@swt02.swt.usace.army.mil; group camping areas elsewhere around the lake are available by reservation only.
