“We come here every year with a group of 40 or so people. The campground was clean as usual, and the restrooms were always in good condition. The locals have been dumping stray dogs, and the authorities need to do something about that!”
“Nice small park. Clean restrooms. A little highway road noise but not excessive. Our campsite #8 had 2 iron stakes sticking up from the ground which need to be cut off. Notified a volunteer. Hopefully it will be taken care of. This was our second time there and probably go again.”
“Was an excellent experience! Beautiful clean park! Well maintained and reasonably priced! RV spots are level and easy to get in touch! Definitely looking forward to moving our reunion here next summer!”

Johnson Creek Campground sits on the eastern shore of Lake Texoma in Oklahoma's Cross Timbers region, where rolling hills are dressed in post and blackjack oak and wildlife is a regular part of the view. The Corps of Engineers operates this popular site, which has 54 paved campsites with electrical and water hookups; 53 of those are suitable for both RVs and tents and 1 is tent-only. Several sites 15 17, 44, 49, 50, and 52 54 feature covered picnic tables, and a day-use group picnic shelter with electricity is also available. Practical amenities are all on site: flush and vault toilets, hot showers, drinking water, a boat ramp and dock, and a dump station; a marina and a general store sit within about a mile when you need fuel, bait or basic supplies. For directions, the campground is roughly 11 miles west of Durant on Highway 70; exit north and the park entrance is about 300 yards ahead (physical address: 215 Johnson Creek Road, Mead, OK 73449). The campground is an excellent base for the lake's wide range of activities: anglers come for Lake Texoma's reputation as the "Striper Capital of the World," one of the few reservoirs where striped bass reproduce naturally, and the fishery also supports largemouth and smallmouth bass, white bass, hybrid striped bass, white and black crappie, and channel and blue catfish. Onshore, the Cross Timbers hiking trail runs for 14 miles along rocky ledges above the water, and roughly 40 miles of equestrian trails circle the lake for riders. Birders and wildlife watchers will find frequent sightings of waterfowl, hawks, songbirds, deer and wild turkey, and two nearby national wildlife refuges (Hagerman and Tishomingo) draw migrating Canada and snow geese, ducks and even bald eagles seasonally. The Corps emphasizes water safety at Lake Texoma home to the Hal D. Malone Memorial Water Safety Complex and a number of commercial concessions, overnight lodgings and services operate around the lake; for more information on private resorts and concessions contact the Lake Texoma Association at 580-564-2334.
