“The Coyote loop for RVs was very nice. Although there were many campers we had enough space for some privacy. Water and dump station were close by. A few hiking trails right from the campground.”
“Though I was disappointed that Bandelier was closed, Betty, my camp host, was very helpful in planning camping site, hikes, and attractions. She really made a difference. ”
“Nice campground up above the canyon — take a hike on the Overlook Trail. ”

Juniper Family Campground sits just inside Bandelier National Monument's main entrance on the Pajarito Plateau, making it a convenient base for exploring the park's canyon-and-mesa landscapes and the cultural sites in Frijoles Canyon. The campground's 50 individual sites all set up to accommodate both RVs and tents are grouped into named loops (Abert's Squirrel: 15 sites; Abert's Squirrel Loop: 2 sites; Black Bear: 15 sites; Coyote: 18 sites) that spread across open piñon-juniper and ponderosa pine terrain. Two trails start right from the campground: the Frey Trail drops down into Frijoles Canyon and connects to the Visitor Center and Main Loop Trail, and the shorter Tyuonyi Overlook Trail crosses the mesa to a viewpoint above the ancestral pueblo village. Wildlife viewing is a regular part of the stay keep an eye out for Abert's squirrels and resident songbirds and the Bandelier Visitor Center, a short shuttle or drive away, provides exhibits and ranger programs that put the park's cliff dwellings and petroglyphs in context. Practical details are straightforward but important: each paved site has a picnic table, fire ring with grill and a bear-proof food locker, and centrally located potable water spigots and comfort stations (indoor restrooms and dishwashing; no showers). There are no electrical or water hookups, and an RV dump station sits on the access road (water at the dump is turned off for winter months). Loop A sites are first-come, first-serve and may be paid at the campground kiosk; Loop B is open year-round and Loop C (Coyote) is seasonal closed November 1 through March 1 and both offer reservable sites up to six months in advance via Recreation.gov. Group campsites are available by reservation up to 12 months out (no same-day group reservations). From mid-May through mid-October a free shuttle runs between the campground amphitheater, Frijoles Canyon Visitor Center and White Rock; during shuttle hours (9 a.m. 3 p.m.) private vehicle access into Frijoles Canyon is restricted, so plan hikes or shuttle rides accordingly. All visitors aged 16 and over must have an entrance pass (7-day vehicle pass $25; motorcycle $20; individual $15), check-in for individual sites is 1:00 p.m. (group sites 4:00 p.m.), and check-out is 11:30 a.m. Because cell service can be spotty in the park, especially near campsites, it's wise to make reservations and download directions before you arrive.
