“This is my childhood campground… brought back so many memories of playing in the sand, the gorgeous lake and mountain view, nice tar for riding bikes, beautiful big trees. Seeley never disappoints! The Ice Cream Place in town is always a must as well!”

Seeley Lake Campground
Open in Google Maps ↗
Seeley Lake Lolo Campground sits on the western shore of Seeley Lake, a glacial basin tucked between the Swan and Mission mountain ranges and threaded with the Clearwater River through the local Chain of Lakes. Campsites sit among large Western larch trees some several feet in diameter and hundreds of years old and the nearby Girard Grove contains "Gus," a larch over 1,000 years old. The lake draws swimmers, paddleboarders, and power-boaters alike: there are two sandy beaches, a roped-off swim area, a paved boat launch with trailer parking, and frequent water-skiing on the open water. Anglers can expect kokanee salmon, bass, whitefish, pike, trout and perch, while paddlers will enjoy the Clearwater Canoe Trail just north of the lake, a calm 3.5-mile stretch good for spotting herons, river otters and other waterfowl. For hikers, the Morrell Falls National Recreation Trail on the east side of the valley offers a day hike through recent burn areas, dense forest and to a sizeable waterfall; wildlife in the broader area includes deer, elk, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, moose, and both black and grizzly bears, plus bald and golden eagles and trumpeter swans. The campground itself contains 29 individual sites that accommodate both RVs and tents, each with a paved parking spur, a picnic table and a fire ring with grill. Vault and flush toilets (accessible), drinking water and trash receptacles are provided, and campground hosts are on site 24 hours. Nightly camping is $20; day-use facilities (beaches, picnic areas and launch) are free and open 6:00 a.m. 10:00 p.m. Mountain Time. Sites are available for reservation beginning the Friday before Memorial Day through the Tuesday after Labor Day, when the campground gate closes for the season. Note the Boyscout Bridge closure: access to the campground is via the north entrance on Boyscout Road (the site is reached from MT-83 north of the town of Seeley Lake), and parking is allowed only in each site's designated spur vehicles that don't fit must pay an additional $5 and park in the day-use area; roadside parking is not permitted. The town of Seeley Lake, a short drive away, provides fuel, groceries, rentals and guides, while Missoula is roughly an hour distant for additional services or emergency care.
