Sheridan Campground sits seven miles south of Red Lodge, just off the Beartooth Highway, along the Main Fork of Rock Creek where a stand of aspen and pine shades river-edge campsites. The creek fishes for rainbow trout, and Greenough Lake about eight miles away draws paddlers and anglers. Hikers and backpackers will find trail access nearby: the Hellroaring and Lake Fork trailheads lead into the Beartooth Wilderness while Beartrack and Corral Creek trailheads are also within easy reach; the Parkside National Recreation Trail provides options for mountain biking and day hikes, and Hellroaring Road is open to off-road vehicles. Wildlife is a constant presence here elk and deer are common, and grizzly bears inhabit the surrounding country so standard food storage and bear-safety practices are essential. For broader exploration, the dramatic drive along the Beartooth Highway runs from Red Lodge toward Cooke City and offers high-elevation auto touring, and Yellowstone's northeast entrance is roughly 60 miles via that route. This is a small, single-family campground with nine sites total: seven sites that accommodate both RVs and tents and two tent-only sites. Picnic tables, campfire rings with grills, accessible vault toilets and drinking water are provided; firewood bundles are sold by the campground host. Note that sites 5 8 are short (30 feet or less) with tight turnarounds that can be difficult for trailers and larger RVs, while sites 1 and 2 are level and easier for those with limited mobility though they do not fully meet accessibility standards; site 9 does meet established accessibility standards. The first vehicle is included in the basic fee; a second vehicle will incur a $10 charge collected at the campground if your site can accommodate it. Reservations and cancellations go through recreation.gov refund requests there are assessed a $10 processing fee that is retained by the reservation contractor (the same contractor retains any non-refundable reservation fee), and the campground concessionaire cannot return those amounts. For facility-specific questions or current access notes (the south bridge is currently out; enter via Eastside Road on the north side), call (928) 537-8888.
