What guests say

Verbatim from guest reviews on Recreation.gov ↗ (59 reviews, ★ 4.0). Not written or edited by us.

“We love going to Cascade!! Camp host from Basin site makes several passes thru the campground and is very helpful. Can't wait to go again!!👌👌”

Lonnie H 5 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“Great campsite. Quiet and remote. Gravel portion was a little washboard, but we're used to rough gravel roads.”

Joseph G 5 · Sep 2025 · Recreation.gov

“It was a great site. Lots of trees in between sites. Big creek. Lots of hiking around. Don't forget to go to the Beartooth pass The only thing bad about it is the gravel road. We give it 5 stars.”

About

Cascade Campground sits about 11 miles west of Red Lodge along Forest Road 2071 (paved for most of the route), on the banks of the West Fork of Rock Creek. The footprint of the 2008 Cascade Fire opened up sunlit glades around the loop that now bloom with wildflowers in season, and the creek and nearby Wild Bill Lake focus much of the outdoor activity here anglers fish the West Fork and can launch non-motorized boats on the small lake, which also has an accessible fishing dock. Hikers and backpackers use the Basin Lakes Trailhead three miles away (across from Basin Campground) to access trails into the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness, including Silver Run Plateau, West Fork and Timberline Lakes; mountain bikers will find Ingles Creek Trail and several Silver Run loops close by, and biking is permitted on the Basin Lakes Trail. More broadly, the surrounding Custer Gallatin National Forest supports auto touring, boating, horseback riding, wildlife viewing and other outdoor pursuits for visitors who want to combine a short stay at camp with longer day trips. The campground contains 29 sites total, and all 29 are configured to accommodate both tents and RVs; each site includes a picnic table and a campfire ring with grill. Two sites (sites 1 and 2) meet established accessibility standards, and the campground provides accessible vault toilets and drinking water. There is no onsite trash service; trash may be deposited in receptacles at nearby Basin Campground, and firewood bundles are available from the campground host. Pay attention to vehicle and reservation policies: the basic fee covers the first vehicle, a second vehicle is charged an additional $10 at the campground if your site can accommodate it, and refund requests made through recreation.gov incur a $10 processing fee and do not recover the non-refundable reservation fee retained by the reservation contractor. For facility-specific questions call (928) 537-8888.
