About

Parkside Campground sits on the banks of Rock Creek about 12 miles south of Red Lodge, Montana, just off the Beartooth Highway. A low forest of aspen and pine screens the sites and frames views of the nearby Beartooth Range; the small, five-acre Greenough Lake lies less than a mile away and the Hellroaring, Glacier Lake and Lake Fork trailheads put the Beartooth Wilderness within easy reach for day hikes or multiday routes. The Main Fork of Rock Creek and Greenough Lake are productive for rainbow trout, and the lake is suitable for canoeing or kayaking. For shorter outings, the Parkside National Recreation Trail provides pleasant walking and mountain-biking terrain, and Hellroaring Road is open to off-road vehicles. Wildlife is a regular presence around the campground expect deer and elk and be aware that grizzly bears also inhabit the area, so store food and follow bear-safety practices. The campground itself offers 28 sites that accommodate both tents and RVs, plus two group sites Parkside A for up to 50 people and Parkside B for up to 25 so it works for everything from solo nights to larger gatherings. Several single-family sites are available and three of those are accessible; each site comes with a picnic table and campfire ring, and accessible vault toilets and drinking water are provided on site. Trash must be taken to the Greenough Lake Campground, and firewood bundles can be purchased from the campground host. The basic fee for a site includes one vehicle; a second vehicle (if the site can handle it) is charged an additional $10 collected at the campground. If you reserve through recreation.gov, note that refund requests carry a $10 processing fee and the reservation fee is nonrefundable those fees are retained by the reservation contractor and cannot be returned by the campground concessionaire. For facility-specific questions or current opening information call (928) 537-8888; from U.S. Highway 212, turn onto Rock Creek Road (Forest Road 2421) and follow the short spur to the campground entrance.
