“Porcupine campground was a nice, spacious, quiet campground. We will definitely be coming back.”
“I stayed a Campsite #8, which is tent camping only. This site is right next to a dirt road with heavy traffic, big trucks and loud four wheelers. Also, this is the fresh water pump is broken. You have to haul your own water. ”
“The only issue was that the water pump was not operational. Otherwise, a great campground, I will visit again. We had a great hike to Porcupine Falls, it was beautiful. Also saw Moose close to the campground.”

Porcupine Campground sits high on the west slope of the Bighorn Range along the Medicine Wheel Passage (U.S. Highway 14A), at about 8,900 feet amid a mixed stand of pine and aspen with Bald Mountain nearby. The loop has 15 single-family sites 13 are configured to accommodate both RVs and tents while 2 are tent-only and each site provides a picnic table and a metal campfire ring with grill. Facilities are basic but serviceable: accessible vault toilets, drinking water from a hand pump, and routine trash collection; the nearest dump station is 25 miles east at Burgess Junction. The campground is 4 miles from the Medicine Wheel National Historic Landmark and close to trail access at the Jaws Trailhead (Bucking Mule Falls Trail, Porcupine Creek). Local outfitters at High Country Lodge offer guided horseback trips, pack trips, off-road vehicle rentals and guided fishing for those who want to extend outings beyond day hikes and stream fishing. Getting here requires attention to routes and weather: from Lovell take U.S. 14A east about 33 miles and go 1.6 miles north on Forest Road 13 (the highway includes a 10% grade); RVs and motorhomes are recommended to approach via the longer Burgess Junction route from Dayton on U.S. 14/14A. Summer days commonly run in the 60s 90s with nights into the 50s, June can be wet, and thunderstorms or even snowstorms can occur at any time; frosts are typical by mid-September. Two non-towed vehicles (and whatever they tow) may be parked at each campsite the first vehicle is included in the basic fee and an additional $10 per day for a second vehicle is collected at the campground. Reservations and refunds are handled through recreation.gov; refund requests processed there incur a $10 cancellation processing fee and reservation fees retained by the reservation contractor are non-refundable and cannot be returned by the campground concessionaire.
