Persimmon Hill Campground sits along the banks of Enid Lake in the rolling Hills Region of northeast Mississippi, about 56 miles south of Memphis off Interstate 55. The campground occupies a forested shoreline created by the Yocona River dam project the lake itself covers almost 16,000 acres of water and is ringed by roughly 44,000 acres of green forest and the site's character is quiet and family-oriented. There are 72 campsites in total; all 72 are configured to accommodate both RVs and tents, and many sites offer full hookups alongside modern conveniences such as flush toilets. Facilities include three large group picnic shelters, multiple picnic areas with grills and tables, a playground and an interpretive trail for short walks with children, and boat ramps on-site for easy water access. Below the dam a fishing pier is accessible to anglers, and Persimmon Hill's combination of amenities and family-friendly layout has twice earned it a spot among America's Top 100 Family Campgrounds. The lake is a serious draw for anglers and boaters: Enid Lake is frequently cited among the nation's top crappie fisheries and was the site of the world-record white crappie (5 pounds, 3 ounces); fishing tournaments are held here each year. Trails follow the lakeshore and thread through the surrounding woods, offering hiking, biking and horseback riding on the campground's equestrian trail, while water sports, wildlife viewing and other concessioned recreation are available around the lake. The campground is reached from I-55 via exit 233 cross the dam and follow county roads to the site and Memphis is roughly an hour away for any urban diversions. Camping fees were listed to increase on 1-1-21 from $20.00 per night to $24.00 per night; check with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers or the Enid Lake office for current fees, reservation policies, and seasonal availability before you go.
