About

Norway Beach Loop sits about 500 feet back from the southern shore of Cass Lake in a stand of red and white pines, giving campsites dappled shade and easy access to the water. The loop contains 26 campsites, and each site is set up for both tents and RVs with a picnic table and a metal campfire ring; the campground also provides flush and vault toilets, showers, and a drinking-water source. A public boat ramp for launching is nearby, which makes the loop a convenient base for anglers and boaters Cass Lake itself covers nearly 16,000 acres and has 27 miles of forested shoreline and sandy beaches. The Norway Beach Recreation Area is roughly 4 miles east of the town of Cass Lake on U.S. Highway 2, where you'll find groceries, restaurants and other services; for current fees, reservation rules and seasonal opening information, contact the campground at (218) 835-4291. Recreation around Norway Beach Loop emphasizes water and trail activities: boating, canoeing, water-skiing and swimming on Cass Lake, plus fishing for walleye, northern pike, perch and the occasional trophy muskie. Star Island, in the middle of Cass Lake, is a distinctive nearby feature six miles of trails circle the island and it contains the 199-acre Lake Windigo and on the mainland the Migizi Bike Trail and Norway Beach Trail offer options for hiking and cycling. The Norway Beach Visitor Center, a CCC-era building with a large fireplace, runs interpretive programs (Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from Memorial Day through Labor Day) and seasonal events such as Kids Fishing Day in June, Bald Eagle Day in July and Smokey Bear's Birthday in August; beyond the campground the Chippewa National Forest supports auto touring, wildlife viewing, horseback riding and OHV recreation as well.
