Alyssa S ★ 3 · Jun 2025The campground it's self was beautiful. Unfortunetally while we were there a devastating storm hit the campground. My mother and I sheltered in the bathrooms along with the other campers for 3 hours until the storms passed. We could hear the sirens going off every 15 min. The storms left tons of downed trees all over and unfortunately the campground will never be as beautiful as it once was. I am very thankfull that there was strong bathroom that held up durring the storm. When the storm had passed we realized that 3 trees had fallen in our campsite over the fore ring and picnic table. The next morning it took firefighters 4.5 hours to clear the trees off the road enough that we could get out. We ended up leaving a day early because the campground was not usable. This was no fault of anyone but bad timing with bad weather. I hope to go back again once they get the area cleaned up. We kayaked the river east and saw a huge muskie in the water and spent some time fishing at the pier.
Keith M ★ 2 · Jul 2024This campground used to be a beautiful and relaxing place with the grass mowed and brush and limbs kept in check. The breezes from the lake kept the biting insects at a minimum, now with a few narrow trails poorly mowed and the brush and small trees taking over the campground the biting flies and mosquitoes were horrendous. My family used to camp here often in the 80's, 90's and early 2000"s and always enjoyed our time here, not so much since the forestry service has not been taking care of it like they used to. I talked to a few campers during our time here and they were as disappointed as we were.
Peter M ★ 3 · Jul 2024This campground has the potential to be a jewel in the Chippewa National Forest crown. Unfortunately the powers that be have decided that a more natural look was to “their” presence. The campground is left in a natural state with grass almost 3 feet tall, except right where you pitch your tent or park your camper. There are some paths mowed to the out house and picnic area. The rest of the campground is waste deep grass , attracting mosquitoes and ticks. It is unsightly at best. I spoke with several forest service employees and all exclaimed the same dismay. There was no campground host, apparently it is tough to keep one there. I sure wish they would do something about it. I love to recommend it to other people, but not in its current condition.

Bimijiwan Recreation Area (sometimes referenced in materials as Knutson Dam Campground) sits on the northeastern shore of Cass Lake where the lake broadens into the upper Mississippi River, offering a compact, waterside camping experience. The campground is arranged in a single loop of well-kept lawns shaded by oak, spruce and pine, and every site looks out toward the water. There are 13 total campsites: 11 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents and two walk-to tent-only sites. Basic on-site comforts include picnic tables and campfire rings at each site, vault toilets, a drinking-water supply and trash collection; boat ramps providing lake and river access are located within the campground for easy launching. The setting makes this a good base for paddling and fishing: canoeists find straightforward access to the Mississippi and several local canoe routes, and anglers come for walleye, northern pike, perch and even trophy muskie. Cass Lake supports boating, water skiing and swimming close by, and the broader Chippewa National Forest offers additional pursuits such as auto touring, biking, horseback riding, OHV use, wildlife viewing and a visitor center. The site is reached east of Cass Lake via U.S. Highway 2 and then north on County Road 10. Fees, reservations, seasonal openings and details about RV hookups or other services are not listed here check the Chippewa National Forest or the local ranger district for current policies and availability before you go.
