Russell B ★ 4 · Sep 2023We loved it here. Problem is you can't get reservations any more because of the people who are booking in mass & reselling. This is not fair!!
Andi H ★ 5 · Jun 2023We had our family reunion there. It was a very nice campsite that had nice water access. Plenty of room. Our own bathrooms and water pump was fantastic. There were a few people who tried camping on our paid site and the camp hosts were great about telling them to go somewhere else. The only complaint I had was people kept walking directly through our camp ground cus of the trail. So they would cross this way and that way through our camp which was very annoying and worrisome cus of all our little kids running around. We paid $300 for that campsite so I feel like they need to make and mark the trail outside of the camp site. Other than that it was a great stay!

Eastside Campground sits at about 4,956 feet on the east shore of Sage Hen Reservoir and is essentially a single, reservable campsite that serves both RVs and tents. That one site is accessible and can be reserved as a group site it's set up to accommodate up to 50 people and up to 10 vehicles so the campground functions more like a private lakeside group spot than a cluster of individual sites. The site offers partial lake views and is shaded by a stand of Ponderosa pine, Engelmann spruce, Douglas fir, and grand fir, which helps keep nights noticeably cooler than the 80 90°F summer days. Basic amenities include a picnic table and campfire ring at the site, a nearby vault toilet, and hand-pumped drinking water; a campground host is based at Antelope Campground where firewood is available for purchase. The campground is reached by following Highway 52 toward the Sweet/Ola area and then a series of Forest Service roads (FS Rd 618, 626 and 614) to Sage Hen Reservoir roughly 40 45 miles from Horseshoe Bend and the site is on the reservoir's east side. The site is reservable and accessible, so check the Boise National Forest office or recreation.gov for current fees, seasonal openings, and reservation details before you go. Recreation centers on the reservoir and the trail networks that radiate from it. Sage Hen Reservoir supports boating, canoeing and rainbow trout fishing (there are boat ramps and docks at Antelope and Sagehen Creek campgrounds), with a 15 mph speed limit in effect on the water. A 4-mile non-motorized Sagehen Reservoir Trail loops around the lake and provides fishing access, viewpoints and wildlife watching for hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders, while the nearby Sagehen and KYAOTT ATV trail systems offer more than 35 miles of routes for ATVs and motorcycles (hikers, bikers and horse riders also use many of these trails). Beyond trails and water sports, the surrounding forest is good for wildlife viewing deer, elk, black bear, goshawk, woodpeckers and boreal owls are all present and for foraging small berries and mushrooms in season. Because the last stretch involves Forest Service roads and the campground provides only basic facilities, plan accordingly: bring any specialized gear, check road conditions and seasonal access, and confirm reservation and fee information in advance.
