Reeder Bay Campground sits on the eastern shore of Priest Lake beneath the crest of the Selkirk Mountains, where cedar, fir and hemlock shade a compact campground that fronts one of the lake's long, gently sloping beaches. The lake itself stretches about 19 miles and plunges to roughly 300 feet in places; its clear water is fed by streams from the high peaks. Hikers can follow the 8-mile Lakeshore Trail that threads alder, pine and young cedar, and boaters can continue farther to the Upper Priest Lake Scenic Area. On the water, expect opportunities for canoeing, wake boarding and jet skiing, while anglers pursue Dolly Varden, cutthroat trout and kokanee salmon in Priest Lake and nearby Priest River. Wildlife is abundant deer, elk and moose are common and the area also supports grizzly and black bears, wolves and mountain lions so plan accordingly and follow Forest Service guidance on food storage and safety. The campground contains a total of 24 campsites; all 24 are configured to serve both RV and tent campers, and paved roads and parking spurs make access straightforward for tow vehicles and trailers. Reeder Bay provides accessible facilities, a pressurized water system with hydrants, flush toilets and overflow gravel parking areas, but does not list hookups or services beyond those amenities. Because fee schedules, reservation rules and seasonal openings are set by the Idaho Panhandle National Forests and can change, check current conditions and reservation options before you go. Beyond the immediate shoreline activities, the surrounding Idaho Panhandle National Forests offer a wide range of recreation from biking and horseback riding to OHV routes, auto touring, hunting, and extensive hiking and wildlife viewing Reeder Bay is a convenient lakeside base for sampling many of those options.
