About

Luby Bay Campground sits on the western shore of Priest Lake at about 2,500 feet, its 54 campsites shaded by tall hemlock and cedar and arranged in two distinct sections. The campground offers a mix of paved roads and gravel spurs: the LOWER LOOP contains 25 sites and the UPPR LOOP contains 26 sites, and all 54 are Both RV Sites & Tent Sites, so you'll find choices for waterfront camping in the lower section as well as slightly more secluded, gravel-spur sites in the upper area. On-site conveniences include water hydrants, flush toilets, and a dual-bay RV dump station (an additional fee is required for the dump), and the lower day-use area is large enough for groups and picnics note there's an $8.00 parking fee if you drive in for the day, but no fee if you walk over from your campsite. An amphitheater in the recreation area hosts interpretive programs on a regular basis, which makes evenings more than just a campfire. Outdoor options start at the campsite and radiate into the surrounding Idaho Panhandle National Forests. From Luby Bay you can paddle or motor the 3.5-mile thoroughfare that leads to Upper Priest Lake (the upper lake is not reachable by car), or launch closer-in for fishing, swimming, birding and general wildlife viewing along the shoreline. The Beach Trail #48 is accessible from the campground and makes an 8-mile loop around the southern part of Priest Lake for hikers and day-excursionists. Off-road riders will find nearby authorized routes such as the Peewee, Steep Creek and John Wayne trails, and in winter the area is part of a network of groomed trails used by nordic skiers and snowmobilers. For broader recreation options in the forest you'll find auto touring, biking, boating, horse riding and camping, fishing, hunting, OHV use, picnicking and more; because seasonal openings and reservation rules can change, check with the Forest Service for current availability and any permit or reservation requirements before you go.
