Mollie B Campground sits just under 7,800 feet on the eastern edge of the Ruedi Reservoir, roughly 14 miles east of Basalt in White River National Forest. The campground contains 25 sites that accommodate both tents and RVs (maximum RV length 40 feet), each furnished with a picnic table and a metal campfire ring. Visitors will find flush toilets and potable drinking water on site, but no electrical hookups, and a public boat ramp provides direct access to the reservoir for launching boats or towing water skis. Sites open to reservoir views and dark, clear night skies framed by mixed conifer forest; the campground's proximity to the dam and parking areas also places trail access and interpretive programming within easy reach. Practical note: once your reservation start date has begun, neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager can modify that reservation, and fees and seasonal availability should be confirmed on Recreation.gov before you travel. Recreation at Mollie B is centered on the water and world-class trout fishing below Ruedi Dam. The Fryingpan River immediately below the dam is famous for healthy populations of rainbow, brown, cutthroat and brook trout anglers often work the stretch nicknamed the "toilet bowl," where mysis shrimp from the reservoir draw large fish. That reach of river is designated Gold Medal Waters; special regulations apply (artificial flies and lures only; all trout must be released except brown trout, and the limit is two trout over 14 inches). Hikers and mountain bikers can access the Ruedi Trail north of the reservoir the trailhead sits just north of the boat ramp and parking lot and climbs roughly 3,000 feet over eight miles to the top of Red Table Mountain for wide-area views. Beyond reservoir activities (boating, swimming and water skiing are possible) the surrounding White River National Forest supports a wide range of pursuits hiking, biking, OHV routes, wildlife viewing, winter sports and interpretive programs and nearby Aspen provides additional services, dining and recreation if you want to combine backcountry time with town amenities.
