“Nice area, was a little closer to other campers than I would have liked but overall, great spot”

Painted Rocks Campground sits at about 7,800 feet on the edge of a grassy meadow a short gravel spur off Highway 67, roughly seven miles north of Woodland Park. The site layout is simple and straightforward: two loops with 18 total sites 13 that accommodate both RVs and tents and five tent-only sites each fitted with a picnic table and metal campfire ring. Roads and parking spurs are gravel, and basic amenities include vault toilets, a potable water spigot, and trash collection (no hookups). The west loop is mostly shaded by ponderosa pines while the east loop is more open, so you can pick a shadier pitch or a sunnier spot depending on your preference. A paved, accessible segment of the Centennial Bike Trail is about a half-mile away and links to nearby campgrounds and the five-acre Manitou Lake; that lake is a popular short ride for anglers and birders waterfowl and songbirds are common and the Rainbow Falls and North Divide OHV trail systems are close by for off-road riders. Practicalities are handled through Recreation.gov, and the campground follows the site's standard cancellation and no-show policies: canceling up to two days before your reservation start date incurs a $10 cancellation fee; canceling the day before or the day of arrival carries a $10 service fee plus forfeiture of the first night's use fee (including tax and add-ons); a single-night reservation canceled forfeits the full amount paid. No-shows are assessed a $20 service fee and forfeit the first night's rate, and staff will hold a reserved site only until check-out time on the day after your scheduled arrival. Refund requests must be submitted through your Recreation.gov profile within seven days of the reservation end date; card refunds are returned to the original payment method, while cash or check refunds are issued by Treasury check and can take 6 8 weeks. Note, too, that unmanned aircraft (drones) are regulated on these public lands and users must follow Forest Service rules and safety guidelines. For more services gas, groceries and dining Woodland Park is closest; Colorado Springs, about 30 miles southeast, offers additional attractions such as Garden of the Gods and access to Pikes Peak.
