“Beautiful quiet campground close to Maroon Bells. Site 02 is very private and has access to the river. The sound of the river was great to sleep to. Bathrooms were the cleanest I’ve ever seen! ”
“Very scenic and quiet campground! The vault toilets were the cleanest I’ve ever experienced! ”
“I stayed at campsite #1 with a 19' camper. I had a difficult time leveling side to side, so ended up being living with it. Overall, I loved the campground.”

Silver Queen Campground sits at about 8,460 feet on the edge of the Maroon Bells Scenic Area just outside Aspen, where aspen groves give way to meadows and the dark spruce-fir forests that rise toward the high peaks. From several sites you can look up at Pyramid Peak (14,018 feet) and hear Maroon Creek a short walk away; the creek and nearby trails anchor the setting and make it easy to slip into longer hikes. Expect warm summer afternoons but cool evenings, with afternoon thunderstorms common and snow possible even in midsummer pack layers and rain protection and plan for rapidly changing mountain weather. Access is straightforward from Aspen: follow Maroon Creek Road past the Maroon Bells Welcome Station, roughly 6.5 miles from the Highway 82 roundabout, and you'll find the campground on the left; the same route applies coming from Glenwood Springs on Highway 82. There are 5 campsites total at Silver Queen, and all 5 both accommodate RVs and tents; sites are available by advance reservation only. Each site has a picnic table, campfire ring, and access to drinking water, and the campground provides vault toilets and bear-proof food storage lockers. There are no electrical hookups and horses are not allowed inside the campground, though the wider White River National Forest supports horseback riding, horse camping, fishing, biking, and extensive hiking. For hikers and backpackers, the Maroon Bells Snowmass Wilderness is immediately adjacent: the Deadly Bells Trailhead at Maroon Lake is the gateway to the West Maroon Trail and high alpine passes, while the gentler Maroon Creek Trail offers flatter, picnic-friendly stretches with good views of the Maroon Valley. Check current regulations for wilderness camping, reservation details, seasonal openings, and fees before you go.
