“Camped at Burning Bear for 3 days... bathroom was clean, campground was clean and reasonably quiet for the number of campers....campsites are pretty close together but that wasn't a problem.”
“The camping area was well maintained. The camp host was very pleasant and welcoming.”

At 9,813 feet along the Guanella Pass Scenic Byway, Burning Bear Campground sits in a wide valley where scattered ponderosa pines break up open meadows and provide pockets of privacy. The campground is about five miles north of Grant on Park County Road 62 and roughly seven miles south of the Mount Bierstadt approach, so it's a convenient base for high-country drives, landscape photography and wildlife watching bighorn sheep, elk, deer, moose, marmots and pikas are regularly reported along the pass. Mount Evans Wilderness rises directly behind the campground, giving hikers direct access to the Abyss (Scott Gomer) Trail, though note the wilderness itself is closed to mountain biking. For riders who want singletrack, the Burning Bear Trail across the road is explicitly open to mountain biking, and nearby Geneva Road and a network of forest routes offer additional hiking, OHV riding and scenic exploration. The campground has 13 sites in total 12 sites designed to accommodate both RVs and tents and one tent-only site and provides basic amenities: drinking water, vault toilets, picnic tables and grills. Parking aprons are dirt and the access road can be rough, so larger rigs should plan accordingly; sites accept reservations through Recreation.gov and are subject to the park's cancellation and refund rules. Cancelling up to two days before arrival carries a $10 fee; cancelling the day before or the day of arrival incurs a $10 service fee plus forfeiture of the first night's fee (a one-night reservation is forfeited entirely if cancelled); no-shows are assessed a $20 fee and forfeit the first night's rate. Refund requests must be submitted through your Recreation.gov profile within seven days after the reservation ends; card refunds are returned to the original card, while cash or check refunds are issued by Treasury check (which can take 6 8 weeks). For up-to-date conditions or facility-specific questions call (303) 647-2366.
