Happy Meadows Campground sits on the banks of the South Platte River just downstream from Eleven Mile Reservoir, offering quick access to the narrow gray walls of Eleven Mile Canyon and the broad Tarryall Valley drives. The site's seven reservable campsites all set up to accommodate both RVs and tents are a short walk from the river, where trout fishing and summer tubing draw most visitors. Each site includes a picnic table and campfire ring; drinking water is available from a pump and a vault toilet serves the loop. Because Happy Meadows is inside the Pike and San Isabel/Cimarron and Comanche landscape, the campground is part of a larger recreation mosaic: world-class trout fishing on the South Platte, miles of hiking and scenic drives, and nearby destinations such as Florissant Fossil Beds and Eleven Mile Canyon. The town of Lake George is only about three miles away for groceries, bait, and a few rental options, while longer adventures in the Pike National Forest and Continental Divide corridor put fourteeners, alpine lakes, and trail systems within reach. Practical details matter here: campsites are reservable and limited there are exactly seven sites so plan ahead, especially in peak seasons. Cancellation rules are strict and tied to Recreation.gov: cancel up to two days before arrival and you'll incur a $10 cancellation fee; cancelling the day before or on the day of arrival carries a $10 service fee plus forfeiture of the first night's fee (one-night reservations are fully forfeited if cancelled). No-shows are assessed a $20 service fee and forfeit the first night's rate; refund requests must be submitted through your Recreation.gov profile within seven days of your reservation's end date and will be issued to the original payment method (or by Treasury check for cash/check purchases). Visitors should also be aware that unmanned aircraft systems (drones) are regulated on National Forest lands and must follow Forest Service rules and federal law.
