“LOVED IT!!! Beautiful campsite surrounded by trees and every morning a beautiful sunrise. Vault toilets were well maintained.”
“Very private since we were the only campers there! Area is beautiful in the Fall”
“We had a bunch of campers with 4 and 5 cars per site and tons of kids and a barking dog. Keith is always great and keeps things running smoothly but this was just too many people in a few sites next to us.”

Round Mountain sits at about 8,500 feet on the eastern edge of the Pike and San Isabel/Cimarron and Comanche complex, with campsites tucked among ponderosa pines and young aspens that flash yellow in the fall. The campground has 15 reservable sites each configured to accommodate both tents and RVs set with picnic tables, campfire rings and vault toilets; drinking water is available from a hand pump. Sites are widely spaced for privacy, and wildlife sightings are common (mule deer, porcupines, beavers and chipmunks); the high elevation brings mild summer days, chilly nights and clear skies that are excellent for stargazing. This is a pack-in, pack-out facility, and visitors should be aware that unmanned aircraft (drones) are regulated here and must follow Forest Service rules and federal law. For site-specific questions call (661) 702-1420. The campground is conveniently placed for multiple day-trip options: it's roughly 6 miles from Lake George and Eleven Mile Canyon (a popular stretch for fishing, hiking and rock climbing) and about 11 miles from Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, with Eleven Mile Reservoir some 15 miles away. Riverside Campground nearby provides access to the 1.5-mile Hardrock Trail, open to hikers and mountain bikers and lined with interpretive signs about native flora and fauna. All 15 sites are reservable; cancellation policies are strict cancellations up to two days before arrival incur a $10 fee, cancellations the day before or on the day of arrival incur a $10 service fee and forfeit the first night's fee (one-night reservations forfeit the entire amount), and no-shows are assessed a $20 service fee plus forfeiture of the first night's rate. Refund requests must be submitted through your Recreation.gov profile within seven days after the reservation ends; refunds to cards are returned to the original payment method, and check/cash refunds are mailed as Treasury checks (which can take 6 8 weeks). In the event of an emergency closure the facility will refund all fees and attempt to notify registered visitors. For access, Round Mountain is located about 10 miles west of Florissant on US-24, reached by a short dirt spur from the highway.
