“Very nice campground spot set back away from others. Good river access and hiking trails near by. Only downside is the bathroom. ”
“We enjoy coming to this campground because it is small and not crowded. Hiking up the cliffs behind the sites is fun, listening to the song birds is wonderful, and of course we catch huge rainbows and browns all day long. ”

Cove Campground sits along the South Platte River in Eleven Mile Canyon, about eight miles into the canyon accessed from County Road 96 south of Lake George (off Highway 24). The site is compact and rugged in character: polished gray granite cliffs rise from the river, rock-climbing routes cling to solid walls, and anglers find quick access to trout water holding rainbow, brown and cutthroat. Hikers can link up with the nearby Overlook Trail for broad views of Eleven Mile Canyon and the long, 3,405-surface-acre Eleven Mile Reservoir (about five miles in length), and birders often scan the cliffs for nesting Golden Eagles or look for Bald Eagles in spring. The campground's setting makes it convenient for day trips to the reservoir for boating or for exploring nearby attractions such as the Florissant Fossil Beds, while offering close-in opportunities for fishing, photography and climbing without the infrastructure of larger sites. Facilities at Cove are plainly geared toward self-reliant campers: four reservable campsites in total three sites configured for both RVs and tents and one tent-only site a hand pump for drinking water, picnic tables, vault toilets and campfire rings. This is a primitive campground, so reservations are wise; Recreation.gov handles bookings and refunds (refund requests must be submitted within seven days of the reservation end date). Cancellation rules are specific: cancel up to two days before arrival and you pay a $10 fee; cancel the day before or on arrival and you pay a $10 service fee and forfeit the first night's fee (one-night reservations forfeit the entire amount if canceled). No-shows incur a $20 service fee plus forfeiture of the first night's rate, taxes and add-ons. In the event of an emergency closure, fees are fully refunded. Visitors should also be aware that unmanned aircraft (drones) are regulated on National Forest lands and must comply with Forest Service rules. For campground-specific questions, call (661) 702-1420.
