Spruce Grove Campground sits along Tarryall Creek at about 8,600 feet, a rocky, high-country spot where mature spruce and aspen ring campsites and large boulders punctuate the shoreline. The campground has 26 reservable sites in total 11 that accommodate both RVs and tents and 15 tent-only sites with parking aprons sized for RVs up to 35 feet and a maximum of eight guests per site. Campsites offer the basics you'll use most: a picnic table, campfire ring, vault toilets, trash collection and drinking water from a hand pump. Sites have little to no shade despite the surrounding trees, and the entrance sits back off County Road 77 (Tarryall Road) roughly 14 15 miles from Lake George, making the campground a quiet jumping-off point for exploring the nearby Lost Creek Wilderness and the south flank of South Tarryall Peak; McCurdy Mountain rises to about 12,173 feet just to the north and Bayou Salado Reservoir is close by. The campground is well-placed for day hikes, horseback riding and trout fishing: the 2.5-mile Lizard Rock Trail leaves from the creek bridge and links with Hankins Pass and the long Brookside McCurdy pack trail that traverses the Lost Creek Wilderness (a multi-day backpack of five to seven days). Anglers fish Tarryall Creek and nearby waters for rainbow and brown trout, and a commonly recommended spot is Tarryall Reservoir about 11 miles away note that parking within Spruce Grove is limited, so day-users and anglers are asked to park outside the campground. Be prepared for standard reservation rules: cancellations up to two days before arrival incur a $10 fee; cancelling the day before or day of arrival results in a $10 service fee plus forfeiture of the first night's fee (one-night reservations forfeiture equals the full amount paid); no-shows are charged a $20 service fee plus the first night's rate. Refund requests must be submitted through your Recreation.gov profile within seven days after your reservation ends; refunds to cards are credited back, while cash or check refunds are issued by Treasury check (which can take 6 8 weeks). For facility-specific questions call (661) 702-1420, and remember that use of unmanned aircraft (drones) is regulated follow Forest Service and FAA rules when flying.
