“We loved the location and our spot felt quite private despite the full campground. The only complaint I have is that someone stole our camp chairs, table and dog tether while we were exploring for the day. That's never happened to us before.”
“Lots of free firewood be sure to bring an axe, clean campground, a skink to wash dishes, flushable toilets, and water faucets. ”
“Sheep Creek campground was well maintained and a great spot to camp to explore Kings Canyon. I would definitely look for a spot here again when going back. ”

Sheep Creek Campground sits along the south fork of the Kings River in Cedar Grove within Kings Canyon National Park, where steep granite walls rise above meadows threaded with ponderosa pine and incense cedar. The campground contains 100 sites suitable for both tents and RVs, and the paved roads through the loop make pull-through and campsite access straightforward for smaller rigs; note the park's vehicle-length guidance for larger rigs when approaching through Sequoia National Park. Each campsite comes with a metal fire ring, a picnic table and a large bear-proof food-storage box, and five comfort stations spaced through the campground provide flush toilets, a large dish-washing sink and drinking water. If you need supplies or a hot shower, the Cedar Grove Visitor Center sits about a quarter mile down the road and nearby Cedar Grove Village offers a convenience store, gift shop, snack bar, hotel, showers and laundry. Wildlife is common along the river and in the valley meadows, and nighttime temperatures can drop relative to valley floors, so come prepared for variable conditions. Sheep Creek is a practical basecamp for a wide range of park activities: day hikes to Mist Falls, Cedar Grove Overlook, Zumwalt Meadow and the Kanawyer Loop start from Cedar Grove, anglers fish for trout in the Kings River, and the Cedar Grove Pack Station runs scenic horseback trips into the canyon. Ranger-led hikes, evening campfire programs and interpretive talks are offered during most of the season. Entrance fees apply to the park (current 1 7 day vehicle pass $35; $20 per person on foot or bike; annual and interagency options available at entrance stations) and camping is charged per night ($32 regular, $16 with qualifying lifetime or senior passes). Reservations are charged in full at the time of booking and are subject to Recreation.gov policies: a $10 service fee applies to changes or cancellations, late cancellations (between midnight the day before arrival and checkout the day after arrival) incur a $10 fee and forfeit the first night's use fee, single-night cancellations forfeit that night's fee, and sites left vacant for 24 hours after your arrival date will be cancelled and charged the first night plus a $10 cancellation fee. If you expect to arrive more than a day late, call the Cedar Grove contact at (559) 565-3792 to avoid automatic cancellation.
