Fir Group Campground sits just off the Generals Highway on the south side of Hume Lake at about 5,250 feet in the Kings River watershed of Sequoia National Forest, surrounded by pine and timber typical of this section of the southern Sierra. Official campsite inventory lists a single site that accepts both RVs and tents, and park materials note the group can accommodate up to 100 guests, so arrangements for larger parties are handled through the campground operator rather than a row of individual sites. Basic facilities on site include vault toilets and drinking water; there is no listing here of hookups or flush toilets, so campers who need electrical or sewer services should contact the operator in advance. The nearby Giant Sequoia Mercantile stocks maps, books, camping supplies, local art and other essentials, and the campground is managed by Rocky Mountain Recreation Company (a division of ExplorUS) comment forms are available from hosts or online if you want to report conditions or suggestions. The lake is the heart of the recreation here: 87-acre Hume Lake supports trout fishing, swimming, non-motorized boating and several short hiking paths that loop the shore, and the immediate area is also well suited to mountain biking. Beyond the lake, Sequoia National Forest offers a wider menu of activities biking, horse camping and horseback riding, interpretive programs, off-highway vehicle use, fire lookouts and cabin overnight opportunities, and extensive hiking so Fir Group can serve as a quiet base for a variety of outings. Because site availability and seasonal operations are handled by the concessionaire, call facility-specific information at (559) 335-5385 before you go to confirm current access, reservation options and any seasonal closures.
