“Great host, restrooms were cleaned twice a day, beautiful location, great cellphone service”
“The host was helpful and mostly we just enjoyed a beautiful, quiet campground with Sequoia and pine and a beautiful creek with blackberry bushes.”
“Eshom campground has a very large meadow accessible between campsites 13 and 16. It is great for stargazing at night and offers great views of tall rocky cliffs in the daytime. There are sometimes cattle in the meadow which are entertaining to watch and hear them moo.”

Sequoia National Forest, 35860 East Kings Canyon Road
Open in Google Maps ↗
At about 4,800 feet in the Giant Sequoia National Monument portion of Sequoia National Forest, Eshom Campground sits among a mixed stand of ponderosa pine, cedar and Sequoia trees, with Eshom Creek running along the edge of the loop road so many sites are right on the water. The surrounding landscape opens into the Southern Sierra Nevada granite domes, canyon cuts and high forest and a network of trails leads toward the Redwood Mountain/Whitaker grove of giant sequoias, making this a convenient base for day hikes, mountain biking and off-road exploring in areas outside the wilderness boundary. Wildlife is a visible part of the experience here: mule deer, squirrels, a wide variety of birds and black bears inhabit the forest, and Eshom Creek adds a cool, riparian feel to many campsites and short walks from the loops. The campground itself is divided into east and west sections with a total of 17 campsites: 14 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents and 3 tent-only sites. The west section has two loops (with potable water spigots distributed throughout) and campsites 2 5 are noted as especially suitable for slide-ins and tent setups; an old road off the west loops leads on foot down to the creek. The east section is more rustic a spur that ends in a loop with irregular parking aprons, stone fire rings and no grills while vault toilets serve the facility. Eshom is managed by the Hume Lake Ranger District and is roughly 80 miles northeast of Fresno, with Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks about 25 miles away via Hwy 245; for facility-specific details such as fees, reservations and seasonal availability call (559) 335-5385. Activities available across the forest include biking, camping, fire lookout/cabin overnight stays, fishing, hiking, horse camping and horseback riding, interpretive programs and off-highway vehicle use, many of which can be accessed from this part of the park.
